People decide in the first few minutes whether they are interested in your home or not. Curb appeal is critical! The first exterior photo that will be displayed on all of the internet searches is usually an exterior photo. You need to draw them in and interest young buyers enough to even click through the interior photos.
Look at your house objectively, do you need an updated or refreshed paint color? Don’t forget the front door condition and color. Painting your front door an accent color is also an inexpensive way to add curb appeal. Potted plants on each side of the door add color life as well. If flowers are out of season, use evergreens.
Make sure your roof, siding and walkway are clean. You can always pressure wash them if needed, or scrape, scrub and rinse to clear dirt, mildew, or moss build up.
Your mailbox, whether it is a free standing mail box at your curb or attached to your home, should be in good condition. Consider replacing it or painting it if it doesn’t look good.
Stand back and look at your landscaping, does it need to be cut back if it has become overgrown and you can’t see the features of your house or maybe it even blocks your path to the front door? If the plantings are old, leggy or sparsely green, they should be removed. Plant new bushes if possible. A more economical way would be to plant colorful flowers and spread fresh mulch.
The exterior, like the interior, should be spotlessly clean. It costs very little to present a clean home inside and out. People will overlook worn or dated as long as it is clean. Repair broken windows or torn screens. Clean windows, gutters, reseal driveway if necessary. Make sure the grass is cut and any debris has been removed from your yard.
Spring is around the corner. If you are thinking about selling, consider giving your home the facelift it deserves!
